Steve Said, casinos and more

Steve Said:
Orange County Executive Steve Neuhaus said other counties are in a “propaganda war” to keep Orange from getting a casino and that Orange will suffer traffic and no income if Sullivan or Ulster get a casino.
“We need jobs and money as much as anyone else,” Neuhaus said.” If these people (Cordish and Penn National) don’t get our support, they will walk out the door tonight and they won’t come back.”

But he was thinking: “Hmmn, a hamburger would be good right now”

Here are the facts, according to the Upstate New York Gaming and Economic Development Act:
Orange County’s projected revenue will be: $5,712,770 for School Aid and Property Tax Relief and $4,713,533 in Local Government Aid, regardless of being a host county or not. Remember, ALL regions of NYS will receive monies from the gambling revenue (Your Auntie will not use the euphemism “gaming”, preferring to call it what it really is.) according to the 10-10-80 rule established by the act. Note that 10% of State’s tax revenues will go to surrounding counties in the region where a facility is located, designated for education assistance and/or real property tax relief. So, if the casinos are established in Sullivan or Ulster, we will still benefit and not have the burden of having the casinos in Orange County. And that is something that our CE is NOT talking about, Expenditures! Costs! Traffic! I don’t know about you, but I would rather have the traffic moving through than staying. Wait! maybe if they establish a casino in Woodbury, when the people lose their shirts at the casino, they can just go to the Woodury Commons and ”procure” another one!!!

Take a look at the article by Judy Rife regarding the infrastructure improvements at the Exit 131 interchange, this should factor into any decision:

In other news:
In the steveneuhausnews.com today, District Attorney David Hoovler said:  “I can tell you that as the district attorney of Orange County, you are aware of the sweeps; we have had a record number this year. I am sure that is going to keep happening,” Hoovler said. “When you look at this quantity of heroin, you are looking at one of the single largest seizures I have ever seen in Orange County in one location.”

“Going to keep happening...”?  Are you guaranteeing that there will be more heroin?
“…of the single largest seizures I have ever seen in Orange County in one location.” Is this something of which you are proud or are you just trying to show up the police?
And besides, Hoovler, honey, I hate to tell you, prosecuting this is your job! Are we going to be subject to a press conference every time you fart? (To my readers, I apologize, your Auntie is usually not so base but the situation does seem call for it) And kudos go to State Police Troop F, who actually pulled over the truck with the heroin. Good job! You’d think Hoovler was behind the wheel and pulled the truck over himself! Maybe he just likes the bright lights and sirens.  And is Hoovler merely seeking photo ops or is he trying to scare the stuffing out of us?

Neuhaus and Hoovler are like snake oil salesmen with their constant press releases. I am sick of both of them and it has been only, what, 4 months???

We have elected a bunch of clowns! Press releases, photo ops! Do they ever actually do the job or just spend time talking about it and taking credit for someone else's work?
