Last week, the
Physical Services committee voted to reduce the expenditure of the repairs to
the County owned properties from $12.1 million to $9.5 million.
In your initial look
at the article in the on line newspaper, you
would think that the renovation costs of the county buildings are to
be reduced. That’s good, we say, since most of our nieces and nephews are disgusted
at the expense of it, especially because of the horrible state in which we find
the county. (What was it? a $60 million deficit?) And especially since the County
Executive is trying to ram down our throats the mistaken belief that the sale
of Valley View would solve this problem.
But it is not what it
seems.
The Chairwoman of the Physical Services committee, Katie Bonelli, talks of reducing the budget for renovations because the repairs to the
Surrogate Court Bldg. would not occur for a while.
Katie said:
“In looking at the cost and when we would actually get to do the Surrogate Court
which is out on Park Place, we wouldn’t be getting to that for at least two
years. So, we’ve taken that estimate of cost and we’ve taken it out of this
particular resolution.”
This is not reducing the amount to be spend but
merely delaying part of the expenditure.
The voters in Orange
County must LOVE to be fooled by these politicians.
After all, they keep
inviting them back to do so again and again.
What fun!!! Fool me again, please! What will they do next, these little dickens? Don't worry, you have my vote! Please, Sir, may I have some more?
On another note, will our legislature correct
something, while apparently small, that illustrates a total lack of knowledge
regarding our history: the Orange County logo?
How many orange trees are growing in Orange County?
While our counterparts in California and Florida are aptly named after this
healthful tree, the Orange County NY name comes from something called land
grants by someone named William of Orange.
And orange trees were not named after him.
They would do less damage if they just sat under the stupid tree instead of spending OUR money in ways that we don't want!
