Fun with Words

Fun with words!
Dear Nieces and Nephews, Auntie has a fun game for us to play! Here is a list of words, Auntie has provided the definitions for the first three, and you get to define the last set of words in blue! Auntie looks forward to your contributions, you will get higher marks for creativity and accuracy, but do “keep it clean”. Also, if you could provide an example, that would be even more fun!

arrogance: offensive display of superiority or self-importance; overbearing pride.
condescending: showing or implying a usually patronizing descent from dignity or superiority
supercilious: haughtily disdainful or contemptuous, as a person or a facial expression.
Paul Ernenwein: (Auntie has a definition: arrogant and disrespectful)
Here’s an example:
The LDC board met yesterday (The Orange Valley View LDC, that is) at the Emergency Services Center in Goshen. Auntie could not believe the content and the procedure.

Content first:
Paulie spoke of the other facilities in OC and it was almost word for word out of Stevie Thunder’s playbook. You know, why should the county compete with other nursing home providers blah blah blah. But what was really interesting was that Paulie did not answer a direct question about what would happen to the 350 or so people who live there now. Paulie just ignored it and went back to his talking points.
(The firm in Newburgh must be really proud!)

Repeat repeat repeat
Deflect deflect deflect

The Former Chair of the OC Legislature  and currently on the LDC board, Alan Seidman, spoke up and said the person who asked the question deserves an answer. Oops! No response from Paulie! Just some deflecting.

Now, procedure:
When they were going into executive session, they were asked if they were “coming back”. Paulie shot a brisk (and contemptuous) “No” to the one who queried. They did not announce the reason for executive session, they just up and left.

First. There are specific reasons for going into executive session and these MUST BE ANNOUNCED to the public. Second, when a board that is governed by the Open Meetings Law of NYS,such as this board (which is conducting business for the county), goes into executive session, they MUST COME BACK to formally close the meeting! Third, here's the big issue on procedure, they shouldn't meet at all, according to the Supreme Court! Even if the rationale for continuing with the LDC meetings was valid (that the decision did not dissolve the LDC) there is still no reason for them to meet since their raison d'etre was to sell VV and the court said that you need a super-majority to sell VV, Viola! no meetings!
Another bone of contention is the time the meeting is held. People could not attend unless they would like to be truant from their employment.

Your government in action, nieces and nephews!

Don't forget to submit your definitions!

  3. Ma Chere Tante,
Word = Disingenuous -- false, artificial
Example: Best Performance in a Supporting Role "Le sourire faux de Paul Ernenwein" when greeting the LDC on August 20th.

  4. EXCELLENT work Dear Nipote! Auntie had mentioned Paulie's association with Elant in a previous post but this reveals his level of involvement!!!
Why should we trust the intentions of this person who MAY stand to benefit (whether directly or indirectly) from the sale of Valley View.
    Thank you!
