DONE BY BOMBERS DURING WORLD WAR II

DONE BY POLITICIANS IN THE 21ST CENTURY
Goshen, Orange County NY
Please note that the crane used for the demolition had been
broken, as predicted by the Rudolph preservationists.
This is a testament to the strength of the building and its
ability to have remained standing for many more years. And a tribute to the WASTE
of taxpayers’ money.
But who cares? So, it’s just a few million dollars! So what
if it is money that would have been better spent elsewhere. After all, there
are no poor people, homeless people or unemployed people in Orange County.
There are no underemployed in Orange County, no seniors on
limited incomes, no children going to school hungry. Let’s spend the money
replacing a building that did NOT NEED TO BE REPLACED!!!
The county skirted around compliance issues with the NYS SHPO
and the DEC (maybe they took lessons from Andrew Cuomo.) Does anyone know how
big an acre is? (sarcasm)
So much for the world Monuments Fund, who back in 2012,
declared this a building to “Watch”
Watch what? The destruction of this building? Good job WMF! And
the really funny thing is the pitch for donations on your website, You actually
get money for not doing anything except ineffective “watching”?
Time to update your website..
WMF is as frustrated as you with regard to the changes of the OCGC, after three years of working with the Taxpayers of Orange County in their extraordinary advocacy effort to preserve the building. While the Watch program doesn’t guarantee success, WMF does its best to bring attention to the needs of listed sites. Since its inception 20 years ago, the Watch program has included 790 sites in 135 countries and territories. Overall, nearly 80% showed improvement after listing. Of the remaining 20%, the majority have experienced prolonged inactivity or a mix of positive and negative developments, and a small number of sites were irretrievably lost. Three of the latter, the Wheatly School in New Orleans, the Gettysburg Battlefield Visitor Center in Pennsylvania, and the OCGC, were modernist buildings in the United States. This spotlights the lack of support for preserving modernism that exists in the USA, an issue WMF is keenly aware of and which played out so unfortunately in Goshen.
ReplyDeleteThe WMF lists the sites to be preserved and then what?
