Legoland Letters and a Glimpse of the Future
Dear Nieces and Nephews:
As you know, your Auntie likes to read the Letters to the
Editor and is always interested in what people have to say. But your Auntie is
not only interested in what is being
said, but also who is saying it and why (e.g. Is someone related to the
issue at hand? Are they possibly deriving a personal or business benefit: a job
or a job for a family member or some kind of profit?).
Your Auntie has been reviewing letters to the editor in
the THR and noticed a striking similarity within the “Pro-Legoland” Group: The
ratables will help the school district and the municipalities, it will create
jobs and it will help the local businesses out of the economic slump due to the
government center temporarily (how many years now?) “closed for repairs”.
Your Auntie wants to dispel the notion that it will help
the local small businesses. The idea that opening any large contained retail development, shopping mall, contained business center or tourist attraction would help
local business is just not
demonstrated in the history of such events! Does opening a Walmart help the
local plumbing supply store in your hamlet? Does a new shopping mall increase
business in the local dress shop? NO! Such events facilitate the “DECLINE of
the downtown” by drawing the business to these “centers”.
So, let’s get over the notion that Legoland will help
businesses in the Village of Goshen! Get over it, Right NOW!
To think that a family with 4-12 year olds is going to
the diner in Goshen after a day of feasting in the Legoland eateries is just
unrealistic. To think that this family is going to suddenly realize, just
before they turn off exit 125, that they need to stop off a Linda’s Office
Supply to buy paperclips is just plain stupid. HOW will a Legoland help local
business when Legoland will meet all that the theme park attendee needs, within their
boundaries??? Food, toys (legos) rides, Aquarium and more! Just as the Galleria
in Wallkill helped businesses in downtown Middletown, just as the Woodbury Common
helped businesses in Central Valley, so shall Legoland help the Village (and
town) of Goshen. Add to this equation the very real environmental impacts such
as unmitigated traffic and wetlands
intrusion and you have an equation for disaster. Think of the emergency
services that will be needed for the one to two million people attending this “theme
park”. And think of relying on a small group of hard working volunteers to
provide those services. You have a formula for a medical nightmare.
Keeping this in mind, we will look at some of the letter
writers who are Pro-Legoland and see not only what they said but why they said it. Do they stand to gain
something? And even though they signed their letters as being “in Goshen” or
implying that they live there, do they?
Jack Berkowitz “of Goshen” wrote: “Legoland New York will be a catalyst
for future investment in our
community”. THR 1-2917
Jack Berkowitz “of
Goshen” lives in Warwick NY, not Goshen,
but he does have a vested interest in a “catalyst for investment” in Goshen.
His accounting practice/office is in Goshen. He is a Goshen business owner.
Will he receive some additional accounting work from Merlin Entertainments
directly or will that family of four with two kids under 12, after a day of exhausting
fun sitting on legos and calculating their STEM points, decide to go to Jack
and get their taxes done? While jostling the kids on their knees? “Mommy, Mommy,
what does tax deduction mean?” We think
not.
Would Jack suggest that Legoland set up in Warwick
instead? What a great idea! It would definitely help the businesses in the
Village there, especially during Applefest.

Next, there was a letter written by Ron Boire who said: “Legoland
New York will be a catalyst for future investment in our
community” Ron is a business owner in Goshen but does not live there. Ron
and his wife live in Warwick NY. Do you think Ron is hopeful that those families
of four will be staying at his business? Is he saying to himself: “Hey, it will
be good for me so the heck with Goshen RESIDENTS.’?
“catalyst for future investment in our
community” …Lives in Warwick
Seeing the pattern yet?
Luca Spensieri, in his letter THR 1-29-17 promises that
even more fun will come if Legoland is built in Goshen. Luca said: “this project will also energize and
stimulate more recreational related growth in the area with additional benefits
for all.” And “I ask all these
skeptics: If our predecessors applied the same concerns as they pretend to do
for Legoland would we have such beautiful cites as New York…”
Excuse us, Luca, we have a question or two. More “recreational
related growth” How many theme parks do you want? What's wrong with the Natural
recreation available on the Hudson and Delaware Rivers? Because, Luca, if you
develop too much “fun” you will most certainly impact those rivers.
“benefits for all?
“beautiful cities such as New York”? Don’t you mean “benefits for building contractors"?
And if NYC is so beautiful, why did you move from
Flushing, Queens? The Borough of Queens in where?….in NYC!!!!!

One more for now, Cari Nipoti, in fact, this next one is
absolutely entertaining!
Mary Rice Isrealski, in her dispatch depicted the same
day, raves about the tax revenues and “employment
opportunities for high tech, skilled and entry level workers who will also
invest in Orange County when they spend money here.” Mary, you should have
also added “when they buy houses here”
From her website:
As a 15 year resident of
Orange County and an active member of the Goshen community, she has membership
in the following organizations.
Town of Goshen Planning Board
Director of Citizens Who
Care, Inc
Advisor to Town on Parks, Recreation, Open Space and
Farm Preservation
Orange County Association
of Realtors
New York State Association
of Realtors
Fine Home Specialist
President of M&R
Prestigious Properties, LLC
National Association of
Realtors
This is just too funny! Planning Board of Goshen, the one
who is deciding whether or not to build Legoland in Goshen? hahahahhaha! Drum roll
please!!!!
ADVISOR to Town on parks (theme parks, is it?) Open space
and Farmland PRESERVATION??? Ha!
Is Legoland now a farm? Is that related to STEM, teaching
children how to milk the legos? Ha!
Mary, is Legoland going to have a light blue exterior to
match the sky and have old fieldstone walls? Will it have period lighting? What
happened to the person who was so concerned about the period aesthetics so a
project would be in snyc with the historic ambiance of Goshen? Are primary
school colors now a natural part of the landscape, Mary?
Auntie and the Team have fallen off their chairs and are
now rolling on the floor, convulsed with laughter!!! Just how stupid do you
think the VOTERS in Goshen are?
Don’t worry Mary, even though your dreams of real estate
fortunes will not be realized, you could always sell a house in Arcadia Hills. We
hear that those homes are selling like hotcakes!!! And those entry level Legoland
employees will be delighted owning an affordable home! One adjacent to the
place where they are so lucratively employed for 7 months of the year! Hahahahaha!!!
On that one page spread 1-29-17 dedicated entirely to
Legoland letters (and don’t say the THR is now biased when presenting Legoland). Of the five letters posted, one was not pro-legoland and that
author, Mr. Wolfson, did the unimaginable thing of requesting a referendum, so
the voters who LIVE IN GOSHEN will decide! Silly Robert! What were you thinking
in a democratic republic? Voting? humph!
He must be one of the “skeptics” who express “nonsense”
in opposing Legoland. Opposing such things as the emissions of a million cars!
And the effect of the VOC’s on the lungs of all the little tykes happily sitting on the
legos counting to 8! Cover your mouths, little tykes! Have fun but don’t breathe!
Auntie and the team will be watching these letters very closely
and if you, my dear nieces and nephews have any to share, please do! Because we
are going to “out” them ALL. Every self -serving one of them.

THANK YOU! Seriously, thank you for inserting reason and logic into this insane "magical kingdom" scenario Neuhaus, Halahan, Depew, Cordisco & Bergus have painted for Goshen! The Orange County Partnership is to blame for CPV and LEGOLAND.

Ah my Auntie Townie, looks like Legoland is likely in Goshen. All the thrashing and trashing on both side is for naught. The only constant is change. Just like in nature, adapt or die.
Auntie, you are my hero. Thank you so much for posting this. This is by far the best piece I have read regarding this issue. This should open up everyone's eyes to what is ACTUALLY going on in Goshen! This was brilliantly written from start to finish.
We are legos, resistance is futile.
I wonder if Village residents are aware the water guarantee to Lego was given by the Mayor WITH NO TESTING TO DETERMINE CAPACITY OF VILLAGE WELLS TO PROVIDE THIS WATER?
Auntie, what a breath of fresh air! You go!! I am amazed at how little the "pro" folks have any capability to think beyond their own agenda and think about our community. Honestly, it is as simple as just reviewing the fact that our unethical town board and county executive want to ultimately clear cut 523 acres of a 765 acre watershed that helps feed the reservoir for the village. Merlin is just a carpetbagger that found the right politicians to do the wrong thing. Leave the zoning as it currently is and we get no amusement park and no high density housing. Simple! Just asking our town board to do the right thing, (as Rockland county did) and honestly represent the full tax paying residents.
Change for the sake of change NOPE CHANGE FOR MONY GRABIN CORPORATE INTERESTS.
North America[edit]
Goshen, New York[edit]
In May 2016 Merlin Entertainment PLC reported that it had purchased 300 acres (120 ha) in Goshen, New York, "just south of the former Arden Hill Hospital" to develop a Legoland theme park,[18] If approved, the project would break ground in spring 2017 and is expected to be completed two years later.
Financial and visitor information[edit]
The Californian,[19] Danish, and German[20] parks all receive approximately 1.4 million visitors per year.
In June 2005, a 70 percent stake in the Legoland theme parks was sold to Blackstone Group of New York, an investment and advisory firm, under its Merlin Entertainments brand. Lego Group retains a 30 percent stake.[21]
With other new LL in foreign countries being planned in India, Dubai, China, Korea, Japan why bother with a small, miniature LL in OC, NY open for only half a year. Does not seem worth their time or profit. What is the secret that binds Merlin and our county politicians.

**And resistance is the backbone of our nation.
We are the Lego; resistance is futile
1776 resistance got it.
ON THE $.
And that's what we need here! The Spirit of America to just stop this project NOW
