Mr. Spin goes to Goshen

Dear Nieces and Nephews

Your Auntie apologizes for not writing sooner but Auntie and the Team have been quite busy this election season.

Right now, in comparison to other election cycles, things are quite mild, even boring. There is not too much controversy (those who disagree with FOS* are easily dismissed as "nut-jobs") and apparently everything is awesome in Orange County! Even Bill Deprospo is being very quiet.

Auntie thinks that the pot is simmering and will come to a boil soon

In the meantime, Stevie Neuhaus, Orange County's "Willy Wonka", (the one who gave away the chocolate factory) is still the master of spin marketing, evident in the Mid Hudson News this week.

"Orange County is a super-star of economic development, says state regional director"

Wow! What a headline! A NYS Regional Director! At first glance, impressive!

Regional Director of What?  Why, it's the Mid-Hudson Regional Economic Development director,
Meghan Taylor, daughter of Steve's former boss, Jim Taylor. And how does the Regional Economic Development Director get appointed? recommended? Hmnnn.....?

And off course, Maureen Hallahan praises Steve for bringing jobs! jobs! jobs! to the County. That would be equally impressive if it were completely true and stated as "The President of the Orange County Partnership... praised the county executive..." A Regional Director and a President! Wow!

People who do not know about the relationships will believe it. People who give just a first glance will be inclined to support Stevie and his FOS (*Friends of Steve).

Quotes of high praise from individuals that have a stake in Steve's re-election are not necessarily the best of recommendations. Quotes from individuals without a relationship of some kind with the CE would impress us more.

Notice that there are NONE of the latter.

We challenge you Steve, to get ONE impartial, non-aligned recommendation from someone with NO vested interest in your re-election! Ha!

The "Master of Spin 2017" The Award goes to Stevie Neuhaus!!!!

If Steve performed as CE, as well as one who campaigns for CE,  This county would be as good as his PR says it is.

  1. I remember once hearing this CE that he likes to surround himself with smart people. Well instead he has surrounded himself with "friends" and given them all high paying jobs in various county positions. Of course they are going to say "what a guy" But if you ask the common man on the street what they think, the opinion would be very different. Unfortunately for them, they do not count in this administration. The only people that matter are FOS !!!!

  2. Check out Stevie,s signs VETRANS,FIRE FIGHTERS,LAW ENFORCEMENT. So all of the above are behind Stevie? How about PAT DAVIS,COMBAT VET 2 tours in combat. Stevie tours at fund raisers an purple heart for shaking hands. Who would you want to be in combat with or vote for.

  3. And do not forget that the mid hudson news is owned by the dad of a high ranking county employee !

  4. After what was reported at a recent rally for another of a favored project of this CE, soon to rear it's ugly head, a member of the county law enforcement agency,(I guess if you want to keep your job you have to support the CE whether you approve of him or not) taking pictures of everyone holding a sign not in favor. Very bad message being sent out to honest law abiding citizens. But then bully tactics seem to be the norm. Reminds me of another time in our world's history.

  5. It should be no secret that Steve excels at campaigning. He does have an entire professional agency in his pocket, paid for, now wait for it, you the taxpayer. He is like the Scarlet Pimpernel. Here, there and everywhere. But be assured, not for the good of our county.

  6. Mr. Neuhaus may be campaigning as a super star but I prefer the campaign style of a true American hero. Mr. Davis is the man of the people, for the people and not in climbing the political ladder to Albany at any cost.

  7. Neuhaus and Halahan are moving forward with projects they expressly KNOW will harm residents of this county, threaten our air, threaten our water supply and water security and directly damage the environment.

  8. Before everyone defends Pat Davis, let's see him display leadership and confidence . We have not seen any yet.

  9. This is no endorsement of anyone or any candidate:

But, to the person above that said

"Before everyone defends Pat Davis, let's see him display leadership and confidence . We have not seen any yet."

Uhm, he graduated from West Point and served two combat tours in Iraq. If that isn't a display of leadership and confidence I don't know what is. At least that's what one typically thinks of when they think of platoon leaders in combat situations.

LOL ... some people crack me up to no end.

  10. This is a definite endorsement of Pat Davis and not because of his military service and definite leadership skills, but because he is what he is. A decent, honest man, running a clean campaign on his bootstraps. Nothing fancy, no friends in high places, owes nothing to anyone who donate to his campaign, has no relationship with the old guard... you know the ones who were involved with every corrupt decision in Orange County for their own personal gain.

He does not know how to pose and speak out of both sides of his mouth and his agenda is to serve the people, protect the people and our environment and not the big corporations. I am tired of seeing the same old names running for offices that got us in the messes we are in today.

I do not need a protégé of these men to serve another 4-yrs as CE. Wake up people. Talk about leadership, I want a man in office who does not have to answer to anyone behind the curtain.

It is time to make Orange County proud and strong and restore our confidence in our leaders. Pat Davis makes me feel this can happen.

  11. Pat visited my farm a few months ago. He asked a series of in-depth questions as to what the county can do to assist farmers and the ag industry. Like the poster above I also was very impressed with the man. He does not wear his military service on his sleeve. Quite the opposite, he is very humble and does not mention or make an issue of it. I personally greatly appreciate and respect that.

He struck my wife and I as not only a very sharp and down to earth individual but also as a genuinely nice person who cares. We actually spent a great deal of time sharing stories of how our respective families have rescued various animals over the years. He actually told Eve and I a very touching story of how he and his wife rescued a dog down in Georgia (near where my in-laws live).

Eve and I were truly impressed by him. Period. Especially as a person. Smart, interested, humble and kind.

  12. And that makes him a nice guy but he has done nothing as far as the general public has seen, to take on Neuhaus like taking leadership of his campaign. Or does he plan to talk to only democrats like you Chris, not independents or maybe even republicans. There are many who do not want the old boysclub to get back in but at this point Pat has given no reason to VOTE for him!

  13. We have every reason to VOTE for Pat Davis, and you only have to see the long list of corruption booming in this county. The old boys club and friends need to be held accountable by YOU the people who keep voting for these miscreants. YOU know that they follow a plan dead set against the needs of the public. Another 4-yrs. of this admin and there is no going back. Enough of them are running unopposed. It is time we had a 'nice guy' in office instead of someone with big campaign signs and a machine behind him. I want someone willing to try, not willing to destroy.

  14. Uhm, "Anonymous," I'm not a Democrat. He came to the farm to learn about ag and farm issues and speak with me because I have worked on a series of ag issues on multi levels for about 20 years.

Becoming informed on an issue seems to be an integral part to developing smart public policy positions.

And by the way, I find it more than a wee bit humorous and hypocritical to accuse someone of not displaying leadership and "doing nothing as far as the general public has seen" while not identifying who you are.

Why not put your actual name next to your criticism of Pat (or me), then I will take your specific criticism even remotely seriously.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Let me add this point. I don't post anonymously. I don't think I ever have in being on the internet for over 20 years. I think anonymous posts tends to lead to bomb throwing and typically lowers the discourse level.

That being said, I don't believe in absolutes and at times anonymous posting is wholly appropriate. For example, the author of this blog, Auntie, is anonymous. There is a legitimate reason for it, whoever this person is, this person is a whistle blower and is exposing levels of bad action and corruption that is beyond commendable. This person or persons are providing a valuable public service and their anonymity provides a needed level of protection from retribution and retaliation. I don't know who this person (or person) is, but my hat is off to them.

And at times some comments are coming from people who could face serious retribution if they were identified regarding the information they are providing. Again, I understand and respect that.

But criticizing someone who has decided to put themselves out there by running for public office for lacking leadership and confidence ... while in hiding ... is laughable.

    End of rant.

  16. Chris I choose to be anonymous for a similar reason,I want some protection from the very thing that you just unleased. And I think you misunderstand me,I do NOT want the current regime but I do not see a reason to vote for Pat Davis yet. I am not locally famous and in the newspaper many times so I dont have candidates visiting me personally. And I have the right to my opinion without you or anyone finding me laughable ot trying to bully me.

  17. Dear Nieces and Nephews
Various opinions on the local elections are welcome as are the nipoti expressing them. However We prefer the criticisms are directed at those who choose to place themselves in the public eye and not each other. And while your Auntie does admit that Chris is one of her favorites, especially in light of his defense of Auntie and the Team, this ends here. Auntie has deleted the last two comments, one by Nephew Chris and one by Anonymous.
Keep up the passion, just use it to get the corrupt officeholders OUT!

  18. Was just strolling down Auntie's memory lane. Do we all want to keep going down the path to nowhere.
