LET THE GAMES BEGIN!!! PART ONE: THE COUNTY

Dear Nieces and Nephews:

It is January and the jockeying for position, playing to the audience and other political dances have started, setting the tone for how our government will work in the coming year.

Legislative bodies are announcing changes to committee assignments in the new year and Orange County has done so as well.

One of these changes almost made your Auntie spit.

Orange County Legislator Mike Anagnostakis, a Town of Newburgh Republican who has clashed with his party at times and recently announced his departure from the caucus, has been removed as chairman of a committee he led for five years in what he denounced on Friday as an act of “political retribution.”

The Health and Mental Health committee is responsible for many things but most noteworthy at this time is the County-owned Nursing Home, “Valley View”.

Brescia denied in an interview that the move was retribution, but said that he and his fellow Republicans had grown tired of Anagnostakis criticizing them or “trying to show us up as ignorant,” and saw no reason to continue rewarding him with a chairmanship.

Steve Bresica*, your position on Valley View was very clear: you maneuvered in a a manner that would almost guarantee forming an LDC to SELL Valley View.

Legislature Chairman Steve Brescia said Monday that the new county executive, Steve Neuhaus, and his administration initiated the idea of forming a local development corporation to sell Valley View, an approach that Ulster County and other counties have used to privatize their nursing homes.

The 17-3 vote, which took place around 8 p.m., came with a slight let-up in what had been a 16-day dash toward privatization. Instead of voting on the proposed transfer immediately after the public hearing, as originally planned, Republicans agreed to meet again at an unspecified date to vote.  https://www.recordonline.com/article/20140320/NEWS/403200328

Orange County Legislature Chairman Steve Brescia has released a draft of the short document, just over two pages long, that would effectively end a three-year, partisan battle over the future of the county’s 360-bed nursing home by putting it in the hands of an independent board of directors in order to sell it.

L Stephen*, more embarrassing for you, is that you clearly did not then and do not now, understand a key component of your role in the government: to act as the Chair of a separate but equal branch of the government, not to rubber stamp the initiatives of the County Executive in the executive branch.

Apparently, you do not need Legislator Anagnostakis to show your ignorance.

And, besides, Jimmy O’Donnell does bring the Valley View residents their cupcakes every week.

Oh, no! there appears to be something wrong with Jimmy's cupcake!!!

Congress, anyone?

*to whom we refer also as "L. Stephen" to avoid any confusion with the absent, Steve Neuhaus.

Of course there is no retribution. The same as bringing in some unknown to run to replace Sen. Larkin(Basile). Mike A is probably the only person who could have held that seat for the Republicans. Instead, we now have a state senate controlled by Democrats. Is it any wonder the republican party is called the stupid party.

And yet Ed Cox, who has been the state republican leader during this and other substantial losses by the state GOP, is still the CHAIR!!!

This is from the Fray blog and it pretty well says it all. "Brescia denied in an inteview that the move was retribution, but said that he and his fellow Republicans had grown tired of Anagnostakis criticizing them or “trying to show us up as ignorant,” and saw no reason to continue rewarding him with a chairmanship.

“I’m not trying to punish him, but we’re not going to reward him either,” Brescia said.

Brescia also disputed the notion that Anagnostakis “single-handedly” saved Valley View, saying its adminstrator and other lawmakers deserved credit as well, and noted that the Valley View controversy and any lingering desire to sell the home subsided long ago." No one has to show the ignorance involved in this travesty. VVC is now once again in the cross hairs of the corrupt.

Brecia seems to be upset that we are paying attention to Valley View. What exactly are he and his Republican cronies looking to do?

What a joke ... Mike A. does not have to show them up as ignorant, they do that very well on their own. Anyone who has ever seen these meetings know that. Of course it does not help that he is brilliant and they are not!!!

Oh yes, and Brescia has been in there 30 yrs and have you seen that he can not even ran a meeting the right way without reading instructions that the office staff and lawyer have written out for him on paper that he always has to read to correct himself when he has not done things correct, otherwise without the written instructions he has no clue what to do.

Find all the members of OAS appointed by Diana and make them testify. Then make DeProspo eat the Horace Nye Report on what they were planning and doing at Valley View before we knew it was on the chopping block to be sold. What don't we know now !!! Do you think Brescia forgot to read his instructions, because he certainly looks ignorant now. Big mistake replacing Anagnostakis.

Why are there so many skeletons in the closet regarding Valley View. For years now it has constantly been living under a dark cloud. Too many other high priority problems facing OC.

Yes, there are other problems in OC but that does not lift "the veil of doubt" surrounding Valley View.
And, like Valley View, all of the problems in OC are due to the insatiable greed of our politicans.

The problems are not due 100% to "insatiable greed" on the part of these politicians we have in orange County.

Rather, I think it is 1/3 greed, 1/3 that can not think on their own and do as they are told, and 1/3 that are plain just stupid people.

Thank God for the very few like Mike A. who always do a great job for all of us!
