First of all, dear
Nieces and Nephews, your Auntie apologizes for not writing to you for a few
days, but Auntie and the team have been engaged in some heavy research for
future publication, so keep checking in!
Auntie is sure
that you have heard of the saying “If you keep repeating something often
enough, it becomes the truth” or variations thereof. This is exactly what we
have in our county government and is exemplified by the following statement of
the OC legislative Chairperson, L. Stephen Brescia.
Stephen said: “Even if some people don’t believe $60 million, let’s say it is a $40 million gap, that’s huge, Four hundred jobs equates to $20 million dollars, so there are also going to have to be unfilled positions. There are going to have to be one-shots and other sources of revenue. I think we are faced with the dilemma that we have to sell Valley View and try to save those jobs in the private sector and save most of those jobs in the public sector.”
Let’s look at this
again:
“Even if some
people don’t believe $60 million, let’s say it is a $40 million gap, that’s
huge…”
You know what this
says to Auntie Alibi? It says that Stephen doesn’t know the true amount of
this mystery deficit either. Or maybe this whole deficit is make-believe. It also says that the 50 or so layoffs announced by the CE is "the tip of the iceberg" in what appears to be retaliation by the County Executive and certain puppets are just dancing right along with him. (Please note that we are using Mr. Brescia’s
full middle name even though he goes by Steve, because it
would just be too confusing to use “Steve Said” which refers to the CE.)
Stephen also
plans on seeking a re-vote to gain the majority needed in case the county’s
appeal of Justice Slobod’s decision requiring a 14+ vote doesn’t succeed.
(Although with the Laconic Langdon leading the charge, how could it not? –invective
overt)
And this:
“Four hundred jobs
equates to $20 million dollars”
Which means these
400 people are making $50K a year, not a huge living wage, especially compared
to the executive branch salaries. How much of a pay cut did L. Stephen accept?
Stevie Thunder? Still six figures? Some of the county departments are already running at understaffed levels
and we have concerns about certain county departments being cut back.
And this:
“I think we are
faced with the dilemma that we have to sell Valley View and try to save those
jobs in the private sector and save most of those jobs in the public sector.”
This doesn’t make any sense! Are you taking speech lessons from Dain?
Sell Valley View to save jobs in the private and the public sector? I guess that the
sale of Valley View is the cure-all for all our ills!
Maybe in the
future we can look for more disjointed statements, just imagine these:
“There will be a mass exodus from Orange
County and New York State if we don’t sell Valley View”
“There is a mid-level quality of care at
Valley View, so we should realize a mid-level price to help with the 20, 40 or
60 million deficit”
And Auntie’s
favorite:
“In order to continue as Americans, we must
sell Valley View, because a publicly-funded nursing home will destroy the
American way of life” (Which used to be Truth and Justice according to
Superman.)
And speaking of Superman, just who are our
heroes today?
Certainly is not
the elected officials in Orange County NY!
