Budget Confusion Orange County Style

Dear Nieces and Nephews, it seems that, in regard to the budget, our County Executive is a bit confused. On one hand he speaks of a $60 million deficit , how that deficit will magically be resolved with the sale of Valley View with the one time monetary influx of say, $20 million. Our CE speaks of job layoffs and is using that as leverage over the employees , highlighted by his letter sent to the employees. He cries out: MULTIPLE LAYOFFS IF WE DON'T SELL VALLEY VIEW!!!! Or he will RAISE TAXES 40% IF WE DON'T SELL VALLEY VIEW!!! when he wants leverage over the populace. He then speaks of CUTTING BACK discretionary funding to the local municipalities (from the sales tax revenue stream) IF WE DON'T SELL VALLEY VIEW, so that he can have leverage over the local leaders. He is like the child that covers his eyes and thinks you can't see him.

We can see you, Steve, uncover your eyes.

And on the other hand, he speaks to local Mayors, Supervisors, Trustees and Council Members to tell them that he will lighten their financial burden by cutting their costs for elections (monies the local municipalities pay to the County) but he can't do it all at once (maybe someone will notice). He will do it in thirds; a third one year, a third next year etc. So, despite the SUPPOSED DEFICIT, HE HAS MONEY TO GIVE AWAY! Bella Luna!

You know this doesn't make sense.

It just sounds like someone using threats to get his own way.

WHY has this County Executive gone "full tilt" over a Nursing Home?

Qui Bono?

STEVE SAID:“We cannot complain about unfunded mandates from Albany and Washington while Goshen is overloading our local governments with financial obligations they cannot afford,”
When he puts it that way, it doesn't seem so bad; however, he is still spending money that OC supposedly doesn't have. Is this why we have to sell Valley View? So the towns won't pay for elections?
Does this seem right to YOU?

How much money has been spent on the government center with bb whatever plan. Only to turn around today & for them to vote to put out an rfp to sell it. I say, hey an ldc is good enough for valley view why not the government center? The 10 million that has already been spent has lined the pockets of political favors already lets just give away the authority on the rudolph building? Oh no though, that's not even on the table. Neuhaus wants to bully the legislature, county employees & the taxpayers only to put valley view into an ldc. All the while the minority leader berkman is doing his best at being at a rat & making deals. Um, Jeff, ur a little late, deals are already made & checks already for the political favors of valley view being sold. Sit down & shut up. Don't embarass the real democrats of the county. It's either valley view employees or county employees from other departments & neuhaus is bullying them. Can someone please Stephan a pacifier? Maybe then he will shut up!

What department will Neuhaus sell next year to balance the budget? Wake up CSEA! Valley view today & it could be anything tomorrow. A union is only as strong as its members. Don't be bullied. Stand up & say I'm taking this anymore.

Besides the golf courses, do our county parks need to be that big? Sell the golf courses and some of the park lands, consolidate parks into DPW, and control social services expenses such as limiting where possible Medicare (but where/how can he do that....... or how can he stop them from escalating?) costs. What about privatizing DMV services or the jail? Why not renegotiate employee contracts and cutting salaries of non-unionized management and elected officials? Lots of ways to save money besides on the backs of Valley View residents. Do we need such a big county park system with so may local and state parks in our area? How much did the first annual July 4th event under this CE actually cost this county as I imagine that there were associated expenses related to the county employees (maintenance, security, attendants) needed for the preparation, the actual event and post event duties?
