one way street

Dr Hull gave his lecture on the Satmar again, part of an effort to promote cultural understanding, which is a good thing in this wonderful melting pot of America. And it can be not only be interesting but fun! So it is a good thing.
   

But  not when its a one way street.

Is Dr Hull going into Kiryas Joel giving lectures on "Christian" culture teaching: "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you"? Is anyone in KJ attending lectures on secular America, which  means basically that one religion does not rule others? (Secular: not pertaining to or connected with religion) Dictionary.com (2)

Isn't that why the Satmar came to the USA originally ? Because they would be free to practice their religion?

That doesn't mean impose your way of life or religion on others.

Considering the above mentioned golden rule, should we do unto KJ as they have done? Does KJ want  us to pollute  their water,  annex part of their village into our towns and receive a disproportionate amount of public assistance even though they are not eligible? (Yes we know about the cash culture which is easy to under-report; the marriages that are not registered civilly and the use of ambulances as commuter vehicles to the diamond exchange in NYC.) Maybe if the Satmar understood other "cultures " as much as they claim they want us to understand them, then maybe they would know why we are SO Pissed off! 

If there are such lectures in KJ , then Auntie and the team will certainly attend! But some of the team might not be allowed into the village if the lecture is in the summer because those team members wear shorts; the kind that are not illegal except in KJ, a PUBLIC Village, an incorporated municipality in NYS; NOT a religious enclave. Perhaps some one  should tell them they are not the Satmar version of the Vatican, which IS a religious city in a city and they set their own rules, in their religious city. We do not have such intertwining of religion and government in the USA-at least not supposedly.

Maybe it's not about culture, maybe it's not about religion.

It might just be about not observing the law and using religion as an excuse to do so.

Love thy neighbor. Not a one way street.

    Do the leaders of KJ even understand what's wrong with this sign?
