Dear Nieces and Nephews,
It was a “packed house” and several of Auntie’s team
members were there. It seemed to be a receptive crowd with some dissenters
pointing out issues like traffic (already a problem) and noise. (although those
“receptive” folk were the construction trade union members who, we suspect,
would be receptive to anything, if it gave them jobs, even if the project was
detrimental to the community and environment.)
The Legoland people (Merlin Entertainment) seemed to be
genuine in their promises of wanting to be a good neighbor and a good fit into
the community. We’ll see. Danny Depew can rest easy, because there are no plans
for a water park (at this time) so the closest competition from a neighboring
water park for Dan if he gets one in Wallkill will be as far away as, as…PORT
JERVIS, which is a good 25-30 miles away so there will be no completion there,
right Danny?
Next, we have Camp LaGuardia, which is now being proposed
for industrial development.
(Remember, the property is in the Town of Chester, Village of Chester and Blooming Grove.)
We have one town, Blooming Grove, where the
Supervisor, who thought it will be good to have some tax ratables to ease the
burden on residents, but did not “jump” into it without thought. He (Robert
Fromaget) actually had meetings to seek public input, even
though at this stage it is not required. And then we have the supervisor of
Chester (Alex Jamieson- any relation to the whiskey family?) who is so ready to
have this project/development approved that we find a protected
wetlands area directly abutted by the industrial development zone. Not a good
idea.*
Alex is a Stevie Thunder acolyte; he was the heir
apparent to the Supervisor’s job in Chester when Stevie left to be the County
Executive. And he, off course wants to please the mighty Steve by
following Steve’s wishes apparently without any thought.
Stevie Thunder (Steve or Stephan Neuhaus, lest we forget
his birth name) has a vision for Orange County like no other. He dreams of
turning Orange County into a tourism mecca for revenue generation and a “shovel
ready”/ developed area for revenue generation. (We hear that his next project
is to change the name of the county from Orange County to Candyland).
Orange County will be a very prosperous area and a great
place to visit and work, but maybe not such a nice place to live. Except for
the dwellers of high density housing, the block-busting, voting-block,
Satmar from Kiryas Joel. (Have they been to your neighborhood yet?) They have
been blockbusting in Blooming Grove, Village of South Blooming Grove, Town and
Village of Woodbury, Monroe, Goshen, Chester and Wallkill and rumored to be in
Wawayanda.Yes, "blockbusting" IS illegal.
Thanks, Stevie!
PS Don’t forget that we also have the Castle Fun Center
and the Baseball training center in Chester in addition to the proposed “fun”
places. OC will truly be a “Candyland”.
From the article by Mr. Bayne:
*The upzoning would mean the land could be used for manufacturing purposes, including assembly and finishing,
plus distribution and storage, truck and transportation terminals, and a number
of other potential uses. Jamieson couldn’t give the exact acreage of the
parcel proposed for upzoning, but town officials said the parcel, combined with
the wetlands section next door, comes to about 60 acres.
Such industrial and potentially polluting uses right
next to a wetland? Just how badly do you and Stevie want this, Alex? Is
there any talk of buffers or other protections and remediation when needed? Because remediation will be needed if you do
this.
Maybe you should not be so hasty. Even if it means jobs! Jobs!
Jobs!
Auntie, there's a rumor the the Satmar bought the farm on rt. 17M in Chester
ReplyDeleteThanks Steve!
