Ben was the same person, true to his calling of public service.

I have heard so many good things about this man and read so many of our current local politicians professing to follow in his example. I only wish this was true. I think Mr. Gilman was a treasure never to be duplicated.

Agreed, if only our current elected officials were 1/2 the human being that Ben was, we would have a much better county and state.

The man SAVED our onion industry when he secured the $10 million dollar weather disaster assistance that was part of the 2002 Farm Bill. Eve and I worked with Ben and his office for about 6 years.

In my yet to be published book I detail this and our dealings with Ben. I state in part:

And it took the relentless work of Rep. Ben Gilman and his staff.

If you type the phrase “Congressperson” on Google a picture of former Rep. Ben Gilman should appear. Ben (who was eventually re-districted out of his seat after the 2000 census) was the quintessential Congressperson. Serving the needs of his constituents always came first with Ben and partisanship or politics always took a back seat for him when it came to working in behalf of his district. And Ben always recognized that farming was a key part of his district and Ben was always a friend of the farmer. Ben also hired quality staff, from his district representatives, to his ag staffers, to his legislative director and chief of staff. And Ben and his staff worked tirelessly in our behalf.

End of excerpt.

Rest in peace Ben Gilman.

Ben was a great man!!! Always a gentleman.

What is even sadder right now is that Brabenec is portraying himself to be a model of Ben Gilman. Brabenec might have been an intern for Ben, but if he did learn something, he practices the exact opposite.

Brabenec aligning himself to Ben is an insult to a great man. Fortunately Ben's reputation is so superior that a flunky like Brabenec cannot hurt it. Yet the lowlife still tries to capitalize on Ben's greatness.
