Legoland Latitudes

Dear Nieces and Nephews

Earlier this week: Neuhaus backs 20-year Legoland PILOT

STEVE SAID “At this point it seems to be the most palatable to the community, so we are going to have to go in that direction,” he said. “At the end of the day it’s in the hands of the Town of Goshen to make this project happen; that is what they are going to get.”

And today we hear from Legolands Royalty:

Merlin reduces proposed Legoland PILOT to 20 years
Phil Royal of Merlin Entertainments agrees with Steve.

“While we believe our initial proposal of a 30-year PILOT would have generated tremendous economic benefits to the Town of Goshen, the Goshen School District and Orange County, we respect public feedback and are modifying our request to a 20-year agreement,” said Phil Royle, Legoland’s local representative.

but reminding us of something we already know well.
“The project still requires local approvals from Town of Goshen officials.”

Magic! Steve speaks and Merlin listens. Or is it that Steve is merely broadcasting Merlin’s wishes?

WHY is the County Executive engaging in, what may be seen as, “Undue Pressure” on a local municipality, for a project approval under local municipal control? The County Executive has NO part in the approval process and should stop acting as a cheerleader for Legoland. The only county involvement is the County Planner Dave Church conducting a 239 l,M,N review if needed.

And doesn’t this remind you of something else? Think 507 acre annexation or 164 acre annexation, with the 164 as the more “palatable” to the communities surrounding KJ.

Do you know what is even more palatable than a 20 year PILOT program, Steve?  A zero year PILOT program for Legoland!!!

Or better yet, no Legoland in Goshen at all!!! At the end of the day.

If Legoland does receive approval it will be the end of more than a day, it will  be the end of Goshen.

  1. Speaking of undue influence doesn't Chairman Lee Bergus work for Mr. Steve Newhouse? Do you think he could be getting some indications on which way his boss wants this to go?

  2. Much was said that the OCGB did not fit in with the surrounding buildings representative with the other stately buildings of Goshen and ruined the aesthetics of our quaint village. Much can be also said along these lines of what LEGOLAND will do and how it will forever change the tranquil setting of our historic county.... not to mention the invasion on our highways that will lead us to oblivion.
