What about Woodbury?
Dear Nieces and Nephews: (And especially those in
the Town and the Village of Woodbury)
A big deal was struck this week by the “negotiators” of
United Monroe and the Village of Kiryas Joel! Oh! There will be accolades in tomorrow’s editorial in
the THR about the “willingness to negotiate” etc.
Well, it is easy to negotiate when you are using someone
else as the Sacrificial Lamb. It is easy to negotiate when you have nothing to lose yourself! 164
and 52, remember what Auntie said about the results of this negotiation?
Unfortunately, your Auntie was very close.
From the THR article by Chris McKenna:
“Kiryas Joel
officials have agreed to refuse any annexation requests from Monroe or
Blooming Grove property owners
for 10 years under the terms of a multi-faceted deal they and leaders of the
United Monroe citizens group signed Tuesday.
The agreement,
three months in the making, includes a court settlement that would take effect
in November if Monroe voters approve the creation of a new town that would
separate Kiryas Joel from Monroe. The proposed Town of Palm Tree would consist
of Kiryas Joel - including a 164-acre expansion that United Monroe’s nonprofit
arm, Preserve Hudson Valley, is challenging in court - and 56 additional acres.”
There are two obvious questions for this “settlement”
that reveal how artful it is. One, a “hold” on annexation (which may not
be enforceable under NYS law) only reveals that this is indeed a temporary
solution to the problem; that annexation will happen again in the foreseeable
future as a remedy to the ever-expanding population of KJ. Two, glaring by its
omission, is “What about Woodbury?” Or
is United Monroe just happy to be rid of movie theater maven Harley Doles? No
one in the Town of Woodbury (Central Valley and Highland Mills) or the Village
of Woodbury appointed United Monroe as their representative and yet UM is negotiating a deal that will seriously impact Woodbury!!!
Auntie and the Team hope that the Town and Village governments
of Woodbury have an action plan ready.
Is Ace Farms to be annexed sooner rather than later? Is
United Monroe, self-appointed representatives for those outside of KJ, even
slightly concerned?
Nah, they can just have another fund-raiser at the Golf Course in Woodbury, aka "Falkirk Estate and Country Club", owned by Wayne Corts et al, Wayne, who sold Ace Farms to
the concerned parties in KJ.
Thanks, Em! You and your team got what YOU wanted.
But, what about Woodbury?

UM is so thrilled with this compromise, but as stated by Auntie & Team, it merely sets a precedent for further expansion which we all know will be non-ending. It is merely a Band-Aid to calm the corruption happening now. I am positive KJ already is purchasing more land for the future growth of their sect. In 10-yrs. the players that agreed to form the new town of Palm Tree (who thought of this name??) will be long gone. This is blackmail IMO.

10-yrs. of no new formations and then what? We start all over again with KJ needing MORE land and high density housing !!!!
If KJ can promise a few minimum wage jobs and some tax revenue the present Goshen Town Board will gladly and easily change the Master Plan to allow high density housing.
Emily convers only cares about getting rid of Harley and no one else.
Who would have thought UM would turn on it's own promise to stop high density housing and water & sewage. A 10-yr. moratorium and then what. Shame and disgust.
10 year wait? For what? Nothing will stop kj from buying land and do not think for a minute they will wait 10 years to do it.
