$67 Million!!! Orange County Government Center bonding
STEVE SAID: “I know
Valley View is a hot topic but Valley View is not a facility that every
taxpayer can enjoy,” Neuhaus said.
Not everyone “enjoys” a hospital, but we should have
some. Not everyone “enjoys” a Police Station but it is good to have one here
and there. Not everyone “enjoys” a Senior Center, but should we get rid of
them? How many of you enjoy the airport, golf course? Using the same “logic” we
should dispose of them!
When we value a building over the residents of Valley
View, we have lost our humanity. Yes, your Auntie does want to see the
government center reopened, with the DMV firmly ensconced, so that the
businesses in the Village of Goshen can earn a livelihood to feed their
families (ugh, that humanity again!), but when the selling of Valley View is
presented as the cure-all to the counties financial ills, it makes your Auntie
wonder: “Who benefits?”
And now for the practical, presented by Legislator Mike
Anagnostakis:
“If indeed we have
a $60 million deficit, and I understand we are not going to have this $4.1
million hit us for a couple of years, but we are also not going to have the $5
million of savings from Valley View materialize for a couple of years. So it
seems to me that a lot of people might think that we are trading off buildings
for Valley View, because at the end of the day a couple of years from now, that
$60 million stays at $60 million and if we face 700 or 800 layoffs, if we have
30 or 40 percent tax increases, I think the building, trading off for Valley
View, leaves us in the same exact position.”
We all know that the
reasons presented for selling Valley View are a load of garbage.
But not everyone “enjoys”
honesty.
