Dear Nieces and
Nephews, while we presented in a humorous form, the issue of Marijuana for
medical use and the establishment of a marijuana producing farm in Orange
County, we present the issue now in a more serious fashion. And while it may
seem to some that Auntie and the team are randomly selecting the Town of
Wallkill and Supervisor Danny Depew as subject matter, we do so because we
realize that, with our concentration on happenings in Goshen and Albany, that
we have neglected the happenings in Wallkill, probably the busiest commercial
center in Orange County! So with that in mind, Wallkill Week continues.
Apparently, the quest
for a pot farm is not as simple as one thinks. The process involves a selection
of five registered companies with four dispensaries for each company. http://blog.timesunion.com/capitol/archives/231661/amid-budget-medical-marijuana-regulations-filed/
This selection
process promises to be reminiscent of the dance that the municipal leaders did
when it came to the casinos site selection. (And look where that got us)
Danny has just
started the dance earlier than some.
In the article by
Richard Bayne, DANNY SAID: “But the
fact that this industry is profitable and can keep the property open space is
really unique.”
In the article, RB states: “…the company outlines agricultural-style barn and greenhouse
facilities. The plan calls for a $10 million construction project.” http://www.recordonline.com/article/20150322/NEWS/150329839/101042/NEWS
Open space? What barn
and greenhouse calls for $10m? We suspect there may be more infrastructure
involved, not just acres and acres of marijuana plants waving in the wind saying:
”look at us pretty pot plants saving open space”.
Danny, there are
other ways to preserve open space if that truly is your goal.
“The state has not started accepting applications yet from
organizations that want to produce marijuana in New York. The health department
said it will publish information soon on its website about the application
process.” http://www.health.ny.gov/regulations/medical_marijuana/regulations.htm
Millions to start up
NY law is restrictive
Not a simple approval
process just on the local level
Danny will have to
really do a dance for this approval. Maybe he should talk to the Governor about
Wallkill’s chance for the pot farm.
Wouldn’t be funny if
the Governor said “Sullivan and the Southern Tier”?
this project does not seem to be very well thought out at all. what about security? do we really need something else to attract criminals?
