Silver Guilty

Dear Nieces and Nephews,

In response to the conviction of Sheldon Silver on multiple charges* the Governor was quoted as saying: “Today, justice was served. Corruption was discovered, investigated, and prosecuted, and the jury has spoken, with the allegations proven, it is time for the Legislature to take seriously the need for reform. There will be zero tolerance for the violation of the public trust in New York.”

That’s funny, coming from “Mr. $250K”, the one who disbanded the Mooreland Commission, which was tasked to investigate the ethical concerns in Albany.

  Who’s laughing now?

Good coverage of the issue and summary of the charges by Matthew Hamilton:

While Preet may have his eyes and team set on the Governor, what about the so many others who need investigating? Orange County has so many desperadoes that need a look at. Then there is the NYS Prison system that needs an overhaul. The escapes in Clinton were not the total fault of Joyce and the lone CO who is fighting the matter. The Clinton 12 ,including some top officials, were allowed to resign after being relieved. They are among those responsible for the untold millions of dollars that was spent in capturing the two escapees. Selling Sing-Sing would help NYS create untold number of jobs and create tax revenues that would boost the state beyond belief. Donald Trump proposed such a buy back in the 1990's. The real estate values of the three state prisons in Westchester are the NYS's pot of gold.

Privately owned prisons will stop corruption in government?

Dean G. Skelos is next and then who knows, maybe they will still be three men in the room. Could that room be in a prison?

The Neuhaus investigation is good news. Long overdue. Our state prisons in Westchester County are located on real estate that if sold to private investors can be more beneficial for the common good. Sing-Sing alone will bring in more revenue yearly and cause more job creation . It will be like the California gold rush. NYS should never privatize their prison system. Just change the locations of some. Build new, more modern and efficient ones that will provide greater safety for all. Hire state workers that follow the rules and escapes will not occur and contraband will be kept out. Searching and making rounds are key.

It would seem that being in office for so long and amassing so much power and having so many people owe you for favors (Silver) creates the perfect storm for corruption. His defense that he did nothing wrong--this is what all politicians in Albany and elsewhere do was shocking as a justification for what he did NOT deny doing. What gall.

He will reduce his jail time by giving up some of his cohorts, guaranteed-if I had any business with Shelly the skel I would be worried.

CD is busy dodging questions, most likely still working on the county payroll, he'll no doubt be untouchable due to knowing too much.
I wonder if he still has access to the sheriff's office and sealed court documents.
he set a precedent when he was permitted to pay back the campaign money and was free to go.

It appears Preet(US Attorney) could set up a satellite office in Orange county.

He could live here and still not have enough time to get all the corrupt pols!

Is Neuhaus in danger? Larkin? Why do Orange politicos shirk the law? And New Windsor town government?

They(corrupt politicos)do it because they feel they can get away with doing so.

Then we as citizens need to protest and make a stand for justice. The Orange County Partnership dinner last week was the scene of an enviornmental protest by actor James Cromwell and others. We must be brave. James should be the guest at a dinner we need to put on.

Neuhaus is despicable. He makes it so his cronies get in and people with brains and opinions that clash with his are not in Orange County government. He appoints the ex mayor of the city of Poughkeepsie to a high paying position. This should not be allowed. People have to protest and be heard.
