Goshen Guffaws!

Thursday, September 14th  6:30 PM Town of Goshen Town Board Meeting
C.J. Hooker Middle School 41 Lincoln Avenue, Village of Goshen

Dear Nieces and Nephews

According to the article in the THR on Monday the Town Board will vote on whether or not they will change the zoning for the Legoland site and also alter a Town Law that prohibits Amusement Parks. Here’s the funny part: the rationale the board will use, upon the advice of Mr. Bergus on the Planning Board : wait for it….“the amusement park prohibition wouldn’t apply to Legoland is because the park would be geared for children ages 2-12.” Hahahahaha! This is so ridiculous that it is absolutely, hysterically funny!!! What is it? Children under 12 can’t be amused? Now, one may be able to say that the Legoland Discovery Centres are not amusing, because they are as amusing as the simple Lego office in Goshen,* the representation of all things Lego., but Legoland is definitely categorized as an “amusement park” or why would the CEO of Merlin, Nick Varney (who is Phil’s cousin in appearance) belong to an amusement park trade association?

About IAAPA
Founded in 1918, IAAPA is the largest international trade association for permanently located amusement facilities and attractions and is dedicated to the preservation and prosperity of the attractions industry. IAAPA represents nearly 5,300 facility, supplier, and individual members from 99 countries. The association's global headquarters is in Alexandria, Virginia, United States. The association maintains regional offices in Brussels, Mexico City, Hong Kong, and Orlando. www.IAAPA.org @IAAPAHQ #IAAPA

And then, the article refers to something about the law expiring in six months or so, if the Planning Board does not OK “the commercial recreational facility” in six months. Does that mean that the land AUTOMATICALLY becomes eligible for citing an amusement park because there is not longer a law establishing a prohibition? A sunset clause? Hmmn, step forward you Legal Eagles, if you have a conscience! (Notice the stampede…)

And even though the agenda is not posted online for the meeting, Auntie has an idea, based on the agenda for the work session last night, the items to be discussed. (not included in the THR article)

Doug Bloomfield said: “Now it’s one of why would we want them here, or why would we not want them here, in addition to what’s already been spoken,”  Who Doug? Who exactly? The Board? Certainly not the hundreds of your constituents (actual residents not business owners **”) who are overwhelmingly against the project.

Auntie hopes that her Nieces and Nephews in the UK and the rest of the world pinch themselves after they fall off their chairs laughing, because after they pinch, they will realize that they are awake and that this is really happening in the USA! But don’t hurt yourselves too much, mind your head!

  ouch!

*Who throws a few blocks, child accessible tables and chairs into a small reception area and thinks it is a representation of something so grand? Merlin! We guess the magic did not work.

** Business owners who foolishly believe in the “project’s ability to increase their business. Maybe some real estate persons and those associated with real estate like mortgage lenders etc will benefit but at what cost?

Some publicity re: Legoland Windsor, UK

How many times is same argument ( prohibited) bla bla going to be regurgitated? Yes we heard you the first 1500 times but guess what zoning changes all the time. I also find it humorous that you say residents are overwhelmingly against this project. How do you figure? The petition put out for a referendum has what 300 signatures? Many of which are from people who don't live in Goshen and some don't even live in the state!! 300 signatures out of 14000 residents is not overwhelming by any means. You would also think that the antis candidate-Ann Marie Rolo- would have won last night if the residents where so overwhelmingly against this project. We all get it you don't want the project but please for the love of god stop boring us with the same garbage. **I'm sure this comment will be deleted just like every other comment that dares to disagree with the almighty anti crew***

Just read the paragraph concerning the few tables, chairs and blocks and i have to say you sound awfully bitter. Are you this bitter in general? The magic didn't work? Didn't work on Who? The five people who protest every Saturday? Stop acting as if you represent all of Goshen. The only reason more residents and businesses are not being vocal about their support is because they fear the backlash. You know the same backlash Catherines, hacienda and atlas security received when they dared to mention legoland. Many of the anti crew act as if they have Goshens best interest at heart and have concern for the small businesses in town. Why not be honest? The only thing that is of concern to many of you is that you get exactly what you want.

Take a walk, get some fresh air, and be among living people who do not have an ax to grind with humanity or see evil behind every door. You don't represent Goshen, the angry conspiracy theorists never did. You do more harm to this community than good by the dirt and anger you all so casually throw around as if those are facts.

As of today this petition had a very UNDERWHELMING 356 signatures. That should tell you everything you need to know about how the majority of residents feel about this project.

The Goshen Town Board just put another nail in the coffin of the quality of life for the residents of Goshen. I hope the residents who sat with their signs get everything they really deserve.

It is obvious that the strong, biased advocates on the planning and town board will move mountains to get this project approved. It is, sadly "a done deal" and certain folk in Goshen will benefit from having legoland in Goshen; some of them with the inappropriate title of "honorable" before their name.

The geniuses commenting do not realize the petition that had 1,500+ signatures was hand delivered to Doug Bloomfield a year ago. That was a " no to legoland "petition. The current prtition on change for of is a new petition asking for a referendum to be held. Change for or has an error and the sign button has been missing for a month.

Damn tiny cell phone key boards... Change dot org has an error and the " sign here " button disappeared on the New petition a month ago

Change dot org has an error that is not allowing the sign here button to appear. But the last month no one has been able to sign the new petition. But it's interesting to know that the people who want a legoland park are so bored that they're analyzing the signatures on the stoplegoland petitions!

Goshen has been sold lock stock and barrel to a foreign corporation and what once was a treasure of tradition and calm will now be turned into a dirty, money hungry dump.

There is a lot of talk saying the original petition with the 1500 signatures had a large amount of signatures from people who do not reside in Goshen. Is there any validity to this?
