And more… POWER PLANTS!!!! Yes, dear ones, Power plants based on 20^th Century Technology that is sure to have the US, NY and Orange County remain competitive in the later 21^st Century and beyond!!! The result of actions taken by leaders with vision and wisdom that is far reaching and beneficial for all!

OH sorry, we got carried away with the SARCASM again.

We have another power plant seeking permission to operate in the Town of Newburgh: Danskammer. 

Here is a summary from their website (Please note, this is the ONLY information on their website)

   

Located in the in the Town of Newburgh, New York, the Danskammer Generating Station has provided electricity to the lower Hudson Valley and the New York State electric grid for more than 65 years.

Today, the Station  produces 511 megawatts of electricity utilizing natural gas as the primary fuel source.

Danskammer Generating Station is owned and operated by local, trusted partners who know New York and understand energy. This leadership team is committed to operating a facility that is a good community partner and provides local employment.

Plans for the Future

Danskammer Energy, LLC plans to submit an application to repower its existing electric generating station under Article 10 of the Public Service Law. The Project will be called the Danskammer Energy Center.

The proposed repowering will involve the installation of a new, state-of-the art electric generation system and the permanent retirement of the existing generators currently on the site.  The proposed site repowering  will provide a more fuel efficient facility minimizing impacts on the surrounding communities, and maintaining economic benefits into the future.

Excerpts rom the “PUBLIC INVOLVEMENT PROGRAM PLAN” Prepared by: TRC 1200 Wall Street West,

5^th Floor Lyndhurst, NJ 07071 for Danskammer.

As part of the proposed repowering, Danskammer Energy will construct a new combined cycle

gas turbine (“CCGT”) (525 – 575 MW) facility on the Project Site that will include the following:

l x1 configuration utilizing one (1) G, H, or J technology combustion turbine generator and one (1) steam turbine generator;

·

l Natural gas will be utilized as the primary fuel with provisions to use ultra-low sulfur diesel (“ULSD”) for up to 30 days as a back-up fuel;

An air cooled condensing (“ACC”) system will be used to eliminate the use of cooling water and minimize the facility’s overall consumption of water;

l The project will utilize selective catalytic reduction (“SCR”) technology to control oxides of nitrogen (“NOx”) and an oxidation catalyst to control carbon monoxide (“CO”) and volatile organic compound (“VOC”) air emissions.

Danskammer Energy is currently preparing engineering and environmental studies to assist in

refining the Project. The Energy Center will use state-of-the art gas turbine technology and provide a highly efficient baseload generating facility with operational flexibility to be responsive to real

world market conditions affected by weather, outside transmission issues, other intermittent

generation, and/or outages.

The Project will supply electricity to the New York Independent System Operator (“NYISO”) grid at lower prices, will be more fuel efficient, and will reduce water usage compared to the existing Station.

The project design will be optimized such that it will perform much more efficiently than the existing Station, as well as most other generating facilities in New York, resulting in lower carbon dioxide (“CO2”) emissions per megawatt-hour (“MWH”)

produced.

The Project will have positive socioeconomic impacts through employment opportunities, 

specifically by generating temporary construction employment, the majority of which will likely

be drawn from the local labor market (Orange County and surrounding counties). Local, temporary construction employment will benefit those in the construction trades. In addition, the Project operation will create full-time jobs, including about six (6) to eight (8) management and supervisory positions. There will also be about 20 +/- full time operations and maintenance (O&M) staff.

And while it does not mention “Fracked” Gas specifically, neither did another power plant recently established, CPV!

The CPV Valley Energy Center is a highly efficient, 680 MW state-of-the-art combined-cycle gas power plant. The proposed location is an industrially zoned property located on Route 6, on the north side of I-84 and west of 17M, in the Township of Wawayanda, New York. This facility will help meet the growing energy needs of the Lower Hudson Valley region as identified by the New York Independent System Operator, while improving the reliability of the state’s electric infrastructure.

A combined-cycle electric generator generates electricity from natural gas. The waste heat is used to make steam to generate additional electricity via a steam turbine. This highly efficient, state-of-the art technology will generate local, cleaner electricity that reduces dependence on older and coal burning power plants and is better for our environment.

Gas for the facility will come from the nearby Millennium pipeline and approvals for the pipeline connection will come from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC).  

At peak construction, there will be approximately 895 workers on site, and strong efforts will be made to use local labor and materials to the greatest extent possible. Once operational, the plant staff size will be somewhere around 23 full-time well paying jobs.

Power generated at the plant will be sold on the wholesale market and could well be bought by local utilities like Orange & Rockland, Central Hudson, or any other utility buying power from the State’s Independent System Operator (NYISO) who operates the state power grid.

Why? Lack of intelligent, thoughtful leadership, that’s why. Our “leaders” are ones who Focus on Marketing and believe you can sell any shoddy, cheap and inferior project like Legoland, Amy’s Draggonsgate, US Global etc to the public if you market it correctly. All you have to do is say “Jobs” to justify each project, even if there are only 20-25 permanent jobs created, as in each of the huge power plants, Danskammer and CPV. (We wonder if Joe Percoco is available to help Danskammer?).

Here’s an example of real leadership, right next door in New Jersey :
