Is There Gold in Them There Hills?

Dear Nieces and Nephews,

What is it about Valley View, that this County Administration cannot let go of the idea of selling at least part of it? This time it is not about selling Valley View outright but selling part of the land where Valley View is situated so that we find our county government discussing Valley View yet again.

There was a meeting Wednesday of three legislative committees where they discussed the sale or lease of 9 acres of land around Valley View to provide additional healthcare services in a privately owned medical building and possibly privately owned assisted living apartments.

“WHAT?” you say “Not only is this county-owned land but there is a surfeit of medical services and privately owned assisted living facilities right in the area.”

You would be correct. According to Healthgrades.com, there are over 230 Family practitioners (GP’s) as well as over 900 Geriatric Medicine Practitioners; 2350 Cardiologists and 1360 Oncologists in Goshen and immediate area. There is Crystal Run Healthcare, Middletown Medical and Horizon Medical (the big mega-doctor groups) each with offices all over the County. WHY would the county get involved in that private issue competition by “sponsoring” another Medical Practice? Hmmn? Who are they kidding?

And what is the opinion of Hal Teitelbaum, CEO of Crystal Run Healthcare in this matter? Crystal Run currently provides healthcare to the residents of Valley View.  Are the Crystal Run doctors not meeting the needs of the Valley View patients?
“We have over 300 exceptional providers in over 40 medical specialties with multiple practice locations focused on the healthcare needs of the mid-Hudson Valley and lower Catskill region.”   http://www.crystalrunhealthcare.com/aco-info

And why do the bid specifications indicate that this “award” will not necessarily go to the highest bidder for the land?

Don’t be surprised if the names of FOCUS, TOURO COLLEGE or JONAH “Senior housing” MENDELBAUM spring up. Somehow they all are determined to make a profit in this county WITH the County Government’s help.

Katie Bonnelli, Chairman of the Rules Committee and one who has never even been to Valley View, was quoted in the midhudsonneus.com

KATIE SAID: “Doing programs such as, maybe, assisted living* and different types of programs that are currently not offered at Valley View. This is no way in competition with Valley View; that is not what we are looking for. We are just trying to enhance the care that we would give overall to people in need in Orange County and that would include veterans as well.”

This statement not only shows a lack of understanding regarding Valley View and the healthcare system but we believe it to be disingenuous as well.

HOW does the sale of the nine acres to a private entity enhance the care for “people in need” and veterans? Private medical entities do NOT have to accept ALL health insurance plans and there may not be a Medicaid certified bed available in a private assisted living facility. And veterans? Veterans usually go the VA Clinic in Goshen or to a VA hospital for serious medical issues.

Also, Katie, there are many assisted living facilities nearby and one right in Goshen! So again, why would the county get involved in a private competition?

How exactly would such a facility benefit the residents of Valley View?

Programs? To what programs are you referring, Katie? Miniature Golf?

And what if these purchasers supposedly constructing this “medical facility” decide to just flip the land once they own it? (Now, if you said Hal Teitelbaum’s Crystal Run would buy the nine acres, then it would be more than likely to be a medical facility, since he has successfully established such facilities in the county and beyond.)

What is this medical complex going to provide that is not already available? This makes no sense at all.

Valley View is minutes away from Orange Regional Medical Center; close to St. Anthony’s Hospital in Warwick. Are we to believe that Stevie Wonder is suddenly so concerned about Valley View residents that he wants a medical complex only a stone’s throw away?

So, What’s the advantage? There are a number of scenarios but it is not about healthcare.

Is it really about Sewer and Water capacity? Are there any restrictions on future utilization of such capacity by purchasers of this land? And just WHO/WHAT would be able to tap into this system or utilize this water/sewer infrastructure besides the purchasers? If the new owners flipped the land, just who would be in possession of the water and sewer capacity?

Is it a back door for Mandelbaum to build his 55+ active senior living communities as he has done in Goshen on Railroad Ave, Warwick and other nearby locations? And how many tax breaks would he get for this one? Maybe, he would receive some benefit from the OC IDA ! (grantor of monies to the bankrupt Continental Organics in New Windsor-jobs, jobs, jobs!)

Or maybe it’s both. Jonah wanted to purchase 80+ acres of farmland on 17A in Goshen for a Senior Living  project but because there was not water and sewer capacity available, the project was denied. Perhaps he would be interested in Valley View land for his project.? Also Jonah and Stevie have a history going back to Steve’s days in the Village of Walden.

Would this be setting a terrible precedent?

The Golden Triangle continues. Seller, Buyer and Broker, all together. From left to right:

Steve Neuhaus, Jonah Mendelbaum and Billy Deprospo

IF the land is sold, the losers are the residents of Valley View and taxpayers of Orange County!

IF the county is sincere in its pursuit of “continuum of care” and to convince us that this is not merely the first step in a multi-step, piecemeal sale of the Valley View lands; the County Government will establish a Conservation Easement on the rest of the land in the Valley View site to keep it as green space or farmland, something that is disappearing rapidly in Orange County, as we speak.

Think about it.

*Please note that “Assisted Living” facilities, while housing “frail” patient types are NOT required to have medical staff on site. Not even an RN. They are not medical facilities.

Just discovering this blog site for the first time. Interesting forum to get information out and on the web. Why all the anonymity? That being said, some posts here bring up some names and info that raised an eyebrow as to some things I'm reviewing and putting together that I am a working to get out there when ready. Should it be possible to contact me please do so, I need some information and whoever is posting on this site may be able to assist. I discovered some very concerning nuggets of information.

I found the following from the THR story to be very interesting ... I wonder why they would need to have another nursing home buy land to build say a senior housing complex?? Why reject the Agnostakis ammendment??

"A thornier question stemmed from Legislator Mike Anagnostakis' concerns that the proposal might be used as a precursor to privatization, introducing private businesses onto the campus that are interested in buying Valley View and that ultimately would be allowed to do so. Anagnostakis, a Town of Newburgh Republican who fought to keep Valley View in county hands, proposed adding a clause to the law that would prevent any current nursing home operators from bidding.
Lawmakers rejected the clause Anagnostakis proposed ..."

Of course they rejected Mike's amendment, because the plan is to privatize Valley view!

I am very confused about what investors, would want to invest in Assisted Living in Orange County, when Braemar @ Walkill, has 70 empty beds (non Medicaid) out of a total of 200, after being opened almost 1 year. This has to hurt the bottom line and tell others, the Assisted Living market for private pay is glutted in Orange County!! PS All 80 Medicaid beds are filled @ Braemar. So if there is no need for more private pay Assisted Living beds, who is Orange County selling to and for what purpose??

You all give these folks in Goshen way to much credit as being powerful. If you want to give them credit for something, do it for them being sloppy and leaving a nice long digital and paper trail. Follow the patterns on the money they donate NOT just to politicians but to the Judges in Orange County. Then look at those trends and crosse reference to the court dockets on webcivil supreme (;

This area has sewer but the water is coming from private wells. The water line from the Village of Florida to the OC Jail runs past the facility but does not supply it. Furthermore, the Village of Florida must keep availability twice the average usage that the Jail requires. When the Jail was being constructed I met with the Village leaders and questioned the capacity of Glenmere Lake and unless something happened to the lake such as a dredging to increase capacity that I am unaware of the capacity of the lake diminishes every year due to decaying vegetation settling to the bottom. I believe that the only reason the Village (hoodwinked by Mr. Rampe) gave up the precious water they have was in return for the County giving them the land around the lake for the existing park, named the Jake Harter Park. What people do to leave their name on something. So new wells will need to be drilled to remove precious water from our black dirt farming community, unless of course the Jail decides that it no longer needs to follow the 2 for one rule.

Look into the Rampe/Diana selling the woolworth an armory bldg,s on broadway in Newburgh then leasing them back to the purchaser Robt Charchietta who went bankrupt. How about O.C. redirecting $180k to Charchietta illegally was $ ever recovered? Include this in your treasure trove investigation.

Every time they "privatize" shouldn't our taxes go down due to the fact that is one less social service rendered to the public?

it depends on who's doing the calculating. liars figure and figures lie.
what we don't know is exactly is who gets the money/checks, how much and when. and how much, who, when and where the income comes from.
and finally please consider not using the word 'privatize' and use 'piratize' instead. that's what's really happening.

Matt Turnbull is his own man. Like JFK ,he was not bought. Why isn't Neuhaus deployed? So may other parents are. And why aren't we protesting? It is now or never and 2017 is right around the corner but we cannot wait for him to go. Bonelli is a disgrace. Where is the press?

What press? Investigative reporting went the way real muscle car. Gannet owns THR and WTBQ(?)and they are scripted with fluff keeping the political machine out of the spotlight so people are oblivious to the Oligarchs of politician that took over the state/local/fed administrative coffers.

Real news reporting in Orange County died when O'Mack left THR and Bossman left WTBQ.

All of WTBQ PROBLEMS LIE WITH TAYLOR STERLING OR WHAT EVER NAME SHE USES THIS WEEK. TRUATT ENABLES HER IN DESTROYING HIS OWN ONCE GREAT RADIO STATION.

Behind every good man there is a good woman and the inverse is true. Behind a broken busted man is a woman. Having said that: Taylor Sterling promotes mindless mediocrity "as the station manager." When the politicians get on the radio they don't tell you what they have done for the public that week(their accomplishment)They schoomze and talk about their social event schmoozing. Who they made deals with and why they made the deals supposedly on behalf of the public(with their$) Nothing is said! THAT IS WHAT THE PUBLIC WANTS TO HEAR. Half the shows are INFOMERCIAL for a local businessman telling you why you should patronize them BUT all of them forget to tell you WHAT THEY HAVE DONE TO BENEFIT THE COMMUNITY AND THEIR ACCOMPLISHMENT, behind it. How about reporting THE SALARIES of civil servants and how that is detrimental/beneficial to the community. Expose WHY taxes are through the roof in OC. That is what people want to know. People want substance, the kind that Bossman and others in the past brought to the WTBQ listeners. Taylor promotes blackout on politicians from scrutiny and promotes mediocrity. People used to call in and engage. Nobody calls anymore. Her programming is nothing more than an insult to the public intelligence.
Monroe Pound is a DISGRACE but the only Animal pounds that are talked about is the successful ones, that are run well. What good is that? It is Monroe Pound that people need to know about and take to task. But, that would take investigative reporting like Bossman used to do. The only investigative reporter left is Lorraine and her time slot has been downsized to in sum total to about 35 minutes.
Time to find another local radio station

We, the anonymous, have found another radio station a long time ago. Once the Bossman left and it turned into propaganda SN radio and the woman of many names became the messenger. Truatt no longer runs the station. He is the backseat driver now.

Valley View sits in the middle of nowhere, in the bucolic back roads surrounded by farmland. To all of a sudden introduce traffic, an influx of cars on two-lane county roads and the congestion it will bring was created by what genius. What kind of monetary influx are we even talking about. If senior/veteran housing is owned privately they will want to reap all the profits. If the land is leased does the county become landlords? If the land is sold ???? Did anyone think of anything besides the future sale of this facility before the CE moves on to greener pastures.

What Radio station should we listen to? Apparently this blog is one where we can engage freely but we have to wait for a post. What then? The press in Orange is a joke.

There is NO mass media that will report what the politicians are doing. You have to watch them on the SENATE/ASSEMBLY FLOOR. Instead of TV which is actually sending subliminal messages to dumb you down. WTBQ is dumbing you down. THAT IS THE PROGRAM. To numb and dumb you so you don't know what the power political structure is doing and you won't get involved.
There is a silent coup to destroy "freedom" in America by DC. They are paying off any media with your tax$$$$ and scripting what Truatt is putting on the air OR what THR is printing.
Truatt and Vanderhoof(THR chief editor) probabply don't even know that they are promoting their own demise by not reporting for instance:
Right now there is a bill proposed in the Senate to outlaw/criminalize CRITIZISING ISLAM by calling it what it is: a Bigoted death cult.
A direct attack on the 1st Amendment. That is what YOUR elected officials are doing ATTACKING THE CONSTITUTION which amounts to a coup detat.
https://www.congress.gov/bill/114th-congress/house-resolution/569/text = "Hateful Speech against Muslims in the US."

You would think THR or WTBQ would be up in arms against this attack on the 1st Amendment.
Nope they got paid off by government subsidies to publish government scripted programs.

Opinion can change by protesting. Why not us right? And lead a boycott against the THR, weeklies and WTBQ.
