Steve: Driven or Being Driven? Either way, it's not good!

Dear Nieces and Nephews,

The Editorial Team of the Times Herald Record, on Sunday, inspired your Auntie.

If this were the only time Neuhaus had received bad advice and then tried to inflict it on the public, it would still be disturbing. What elevates this is his repeated, almost habitual tendency to act that way.http://www.recordonline.com/opinion/20180415/editorial-neuhaus-passes-on-some-more-bad-advice

“Almost habitual”? How about “constantly”? Yes, the CE is receiving bad advice but that is the advice he wants. He is no 'innocent' and he needs to take full responsibility for his illegal proposals or his maladjusted actions. (Valley View, the pay to play “amendment” of 2018, Legoland and more).

The people giving the County Executive bad advice are people with the same motivations as the the CE, which is to further their own interests and for everyone else,: "Qu'ils mangent de la brioche".

Do Steve and Maureen Halahan from the “now-being-investigated-by-the-State-Budget-Office” Orange County Partnership, have a liking for Beer? Do they have plans to announce the opening of yet another brewery?

According to the Orange County Partnership and Maureen Halahan, 2017 was a “Banner Year”. Why? Because of “Amy’s Kitchen factory in Goshen, the new Fox N Hare Brewing Co. in Port Jervis; the new factory for custom instrument maker Hahn Guitars in the City of Newburgh; the expansion of the nutraceutical firm NFP Holdings in the Town of Goshen; Norwegian Air’s introduction of flights to Europe from Stewart International Airport; and the growth of Oscar statue maker Polich Tallix into Walden.”

Let’s take a look!

Amy’s Kitchen: Not there, yet and despite the assurances of the County Executive and Maureen Halahan, Amy’s will not be using local farmers’ products as their food source any time soon. You see, Amy’s products are Organic and Amy’s does not use “transitional” ingredients for their final product as Kashi* does on occasion. That means IF most of the local farmers want to sell to Amy’s Kitchen, they have to hurry, it takes at least three years to become organic.Jobs created: So far, None. Property Tax Revenue for municipality: not as anticipated since Amy’s dedicated MORE of the land to the “Science of the Soul” which claims religious tax exemption.

Fox and Hare Brewing: Just review this and tell us what you think : Does the word “glut” scare you? It should. Like they said we are “tapped out”. http://www.recordonline.com/news/20180414/tapped-out-craft-breweries-near-saturation-point-in-state

NFP Holdings LLC https://www.nfpllc.us/ There is some discrepancy as to whether or not they are in Florida (Village in Warwick) or Goshen. We think Florida.
Current estimates show this company has an annual revenue of 27976 and employs a staff of approximately 1.”

Hahn Guitars In a county of over 275,000 population, under 10 jobs is not significant.

Statue Maker, Pollix Talix If Steve has his way, then this will be a very profitable business for the county!!! Just think, 275,000 statues of Steve, one for each of us!!!

And dear Noodlehaus, the reason Orange County has so many tourists is that the county has many attractions that are natural, I.e. dependent on “not being developed” and Historic (And a great reason for living here). Do you really think that you possess the wisdom to know when the delicate balance between Nature and Economy has been reached? We do not.

Try not to destroy the very thing that is attracting tourists to our county! And furthermore, Stop trying to destroy Our County and our Quality of Life, with poorly thought out projects like Legoland**, a prime example of why we know you would not detect or understand when you have tipped the scales against the environment!!!

At least the airport is still there, for now. Awesome!

**An amusement park with a rather hobbling theme, based on a set of building blocks. It will be set in a sensitive environmental area with already overcrowded roads. It is estimated to attract over 2 million people and this is not considering the additional traffic of the new casino in Sullivan. We are told this is great because local businesses will thrive!!! Just like those local businesses that thrive when a Wal Mart or a Home Depot come to town! Just like all the restaurants that benefit when a casino comes on board the local scene because they do not have restaurants contained within! Hahahahahaha! Can you say: “IMBECILIC”? "Qu'ils mangent de la brioche".

At the end of the day, these corrupt politicians and organizations will be exposed for what they are and will have to face Mother Nature and her wrath for all the devastation they have caused to the wildlife, water, and deforestation. The cycle of life to every living thing has been altered by their greed. People are trying to escape and find refuge in the peaceful rolling hills and streams, lakes, rivers of Orange County. They do not want to sit in traffic for hours to get to what was once their haven of peace and tranquility. Add 12K of Amy's followers to the mix, I dare you. Who needs a tourism guide to HELL !!!

I have heard this CE in numerous speeches say he likes to surround himself with smart people. But from what I can tell, he has surrounded himself with FOS. Only a FOS gets a great position in the inner circle. A quote from the THR editorial seems just about right "Every public figure gets bad advice. That’s not a problem. Steve Neuhaus seems to get more bad advice than do other local leaders. That is a problem. Worse yet, he believes what he hears."

All I see from Amy's Kitchen is greenwashing. They don't care about our natural resources and dwindling open spaces. Their plan to set aside a conservation easement with the Town of Goshen proves as much. That land probably can't be built on anyway and even if they wanted to mess around with it, who is going to stop them- the Town of Goshen?! Ha! The Town is notorious for looking the other way and under-the-table handshake deals. Can't trust them.

Amy’s Kitchen did not move here to source local product. They moved here because it will be cheaper for them to haul ag products here and assemble their final product versus assembling and storing it out west and shipping via refrigerated trucks here.

There are 3 tiers of ag prices, retail, wholesale and processing. If a farmer, especially on the black dirt, is going to transition to organic production they certainly aren’t going to sell for the cheapest price. And Amy’s may pay a slightly better processing price. But who knows, are they disclosing this, or are they actually expecting farmers to transition purely on faith? It is my understanding that Amy’s is not disclosing or being upfront about what they pay for product. I wonder why that is?

And urging black dirt farmers to transition to organic so as to receive an even crummier deal and price than wholesale makes no business sense. Again, if you are even remotely considering transitioning to organic you are going to sell retail, not for processing.

Amy’s isn’t exactly an ideal employer: http://www.pressdemocrat.com/news/7355049-181/amys-kitchen-suit-charges-the & https://www.ien.com/video/video/20974186/foodmaker-accused-of-firing-injured-employees

Article states: "According to the news source Petaluma 360, the lawsuit claims Amy’s deliberately hires and promotes predominantly Mexican-Americans because of their reputation for being hard workers. The suit also says that supervisors gave instructions in Spanish, and a worker says he was retaliated against for not understanding.”

If there is any question as to who they exactly they will hire let’s just set it aside. We WILL be competing with them for labor. Period. It’s their business model.

While the Town of Goshen is all concerned about pleasing this new processor moving into town and theoretical local farmers who will never switch to organic they do next to nothing to help the multi-generational farms that currently employ hundreds of people and is already a multi-million dollar industry. In fact, over the last few years the Town of Goshen illegally closed a main road in the black dirt because they no longer wanted to be responsible for it and maintain it (they had to back down), jacked up our land assessments and thereby jacked up our taxes (they also had to back down on that), and have dragged their feet on maintaining the portion of the Wallkill River that runs through it.

Finally, in the recent THR article about Amy's it stated:

This summer, Berliner said, his contractors will focus on building a bridge over the Wallkill River, which divides the 395-acre site.

Who is going to pay for that? If the federal government actually pays for that, or even part of it, after it has done virtually nothing about the Wallkill flooding us out 7 times since 2005, I’m going to be more than a little irritated.

Sorry for the rant.

One other point ... the overwhelming consensus of the scientific community is that "organic" produce is not "healthier" or better for the consumer of it in a health sense. It just isn't. I am not knocking it, if you can afford it and eating it makes you feel better ... knock yourself out. But what irks me is that some from this community choose to knock my form of production in order to sell theirs, and the science simply doesn't back that. Further, anyone that thinks you can feed a 21st century world population of 7 billion and growing on the current land space devoted to agriculture, with the current number of farmers, using 19th century or older production practices, is engaging in "magical thinking."

And, if you do want to eat something "healthier" or better for you in a nutritional sense then you are far better off eating FRESH produce versus something processed at a plant ... including Amy's plant.
