Drama, Orange County Style

Dear Nieces and Nephews

Oh, the staging! The drama, the lights! The role playing! All here on the Orange County stage with the well-rehearsed actors being the Orange County legislators! The choreography that is the political dance called “Give yourself some wiggle room” with the best gyrating to that tune displayed by the OC Legislative Chair L. Stephen Brecia and Legislative attorney Antoinette Reed.

Brescia said, regarding the formation of the Town of North Monroe:

Without a decrease in its size, he said he doubts that the proposal would get enough support on the Legislature to secure the two-thirds majority — at least 14 of 21 lawmakers — that it needs to make it to a referendum in Monroe. Either way, Brescia said, “I think we’re obligated to bring it to a vote.”

Translation: “We will bring it to a vote but it won’t get passed, get closer to the 164 and it will pass”

 What does this give him? Wiggle Room! and also for the Legislative Attorney, Ms. Reed.

"Antoinette Reed, the Legislature’s attorney, said Friday that lawmakers must vote on the petition at their Sept. 7 meeting or at a special session soon after to meet a deadline to place it on the Nov. 7 election ballot in Monroe."

Translation: “If they legislators don’t act swiftly; my derrière is covered if it does not pass”

Let’s face my dear ones, there is more going on behind the scenes for this deal than United Monroe meeting with the Village leaders. In our opinion, these poor neophytes to Orange County politics are merely being used as a tool and possibly as a scapegoat. And then, the plan to which OC Government (Legislative and Executive) originally agreed, will be put forth despite the time and effort of United Monroe. But all under the guise of "Let the voters decide" which we know is not accurate. .

All the world’s a stage,
And all the men and women merely players;
They have their exits and their entrances,
And one man in his time plays many parts,
His acts being seven ages.
William Shakespeare As You Like It, Act II, Scene VII

Auntie and the Team do not think that this is what was meant by United Monroe being a “player” in OC politics.
